How to use

Reading

  • Choose images, drop them on the page, or paste a screenshot with ⌘V (Ctrl+V on Windows). You can read several images at once, and several codes in one image.
  • Use camera scans with your camera until you press Stop camera, and adds each new code it sees. The browser asks first, and the camera only works on a secure (https) page.
  • Each code says what it is (a link, Wi-Fi, a contact, an email, a phone number, a text message, a location, an event, JSON or text) and shows what it holds, with buttons to copy or open it. Links show their domain: check it before you open a link from a code you don't know.
  • Links with parameters open in the URL Parameter Highlighter, and JSON in the JSON Path Viewer.
  • No QR code found? Crop closer to the code, take the photo with more light, or use a bigger image.

Creating

  • Pick what the code is for: text or a link, Wi-Fi, an email, a phone number, a text message or a contact. The code updates as you type. View example fills in an example.
  • A Wi-Fi code lets phones join the network by scanning it. Email, phone and text message codes start a new message or a call, and a contact code adds a contact (vCard).
  • Error correction: a code still reads with part of it damaged or covered, up to 7% (Low) to 30% (High), but higher levels make it denser. When there's room to spare, the code uses a higher level at the same size.
  • Margin is the empty border around the code, in modules (its small squares). Scanners need about 4.
  • Dark on light reads best. You're warned when the colors are too close, or the code is lighter than its background.
  • Download PNG saves it at the size you chose, Download SVG sharp at any size (for print), and Copy image copies it for a chat or a document. A check reads the code back, the way a scanner would.
  • A QR code holds up to about 2,900 bytes of text (fewer at higher error correction). For more, put it on a web page and make a code of the link.
  • The options are remembered in this browser; what you type isn't.

Sharing

  • Copy share link (on Create) copies a link to this page with the fields filled in, after a #, so whoever opens it gets the same code. A Wi-Fi code's link has the password in it.

Privacy

  • Images and camera pictures are read in your browser and never uploaded. What you type in Create isn't sent anywhere either.
  • The codes are made and read here, with your browser's own QR reader where it has one, and otherwise jsQR, loaded from this site.
